Washington – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet, issued the following statement regarding President Biden's recent proposal:
"Joe Biden has all but disappeared. He is unseen domestically and absent on the world stage. Except for a vague and slurred 11-minute address to the nation last week, he has not appeared in public to detail his health condition.
"He has yet to comment in his own voice on the pro-Hamas mob that last week burned the American flag and defaced Washington’s Union Station with antisemitic and pro-terrorist graffiti.
"He has yet to comment in his own voice condemning this weekend’s terror attack by Hezbollah that killed 11 children in Israel.
"But Joe Biden is not silent. We are asked to believe that he has taken to the Washington Post today so he can detail a proposal that would upend more than 200 years of Supreme Court tradition and Constitutional law in order to remake the High Court in the image of Democrat dreams and allow progressives to control it forever. This is now fundamental to how Democrats will save democracy.
"This is more than 'packing the court' – though it is. It’s more than a reversal of Biden’s 2020 opposition to expanding the Supreme Court. It is still more than a late election-year embrace of an idea dismissed for decades in every corner of our politics save the most radical fringe.
"But the radical fringe now has control of the White House – and the President. It is embodied in the long public career of the Vice President who was recently handed the Democrat nomination for president.
"This is, in sum and substance, a last gasp of an expiring administration desperate for power that knows it is losing and fears the consequences of the judgment and consent of the governed."
