Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) issued a statement on July 23, 2024, addressing concerns over an estimated 25,000 protestors expected to gather at the House of Representatives. These protestors, reportedly supporters and allies of the anticipated Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris, plan to oppose Prime Minister Netanyahu’s speech before a joint session of Congress.

Issa highlighted that the Capitol Police have informed members and staff about the extensive security measures being implemented. "Beginning last night and through today, the Capitol Police and House Administration have shared plans and procedures that detail extensive security measures," he stated. This includes closing multiple House entrances and prohibiting all visitors unless accompanied by an escort at all times. Barriers and fencing are also being erected in preparation for the protests.

Issa expressed concern over the potential disruption these actions could cause to congressional proceedings. "This will not only disrupt but also potentially shut down Congress," he said. He further criticized the situation as "outrageous" for denying public access to Congress.

In his statement, Issa directly addressed Vice President Harris: "Vice President Harris: Acknowledge the clear danger all of this represents. Use your voice, tell your supporters not to descend on the Capitol, not to force their way inside, and above all else, not prevent everyday citizens' peaceful and public access to the People’s House."
