San Diego, CA – U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) visited the USBP San Diego Sector Headquarters yesterday to receive updates from Chief Patricia McGurk-Daniel and her team and tour various areas of the California border.
Rep. Kim toured several key locations including USBP Imperial Beach Station’s operations at Border Field State Park, border infrastructure projects at the Tijuana River Channel, and the USBP San Diego Sector Soft-Sided Facility. Photos courtesy of the Office of Congresswoman Kim are available.
“CBP San Diego Sector, just two hours away from the communities I represent, is the busiest CBP sector by square mile and has become the epicenter of the Southern border crisis,” said Rep. Young Kim. “Seeing the border crisis firsthand allows me to better do my job in Congress, work on border security solutions, and help our border patrol receive the support they deserve. I appreciate Chief McGurk-Daniel and the USBP San Diego Sector team for providing me with a tour of their operations and showing me the challenges they face. I look forward to continuing my conversations with the USBP San Diego Sector team and educating my colleagues so we can work on bipartisan policies that will make an impact on the ground to improve the situation at our Southern border and protect our national security.”
This visit marks Rep. Kim’s sixth trip to the U.S.-Mexico border during her tenure in Congress. She has been actively involved in efforts to secure the border through various legislative initiatives:
- Leading H.R. 3508, known as the Comprehensive Southern Border Strategy Act, which is a bipartisan bill aimed at ensuring that the Department of Homeland Security develops a comprehensive strategy for securing the Southern border.
- Urging Secretary Mayorkas to utilize all available border security equipment within federal possession following reports that some equipment was being stored without use at taxpayer expense.
- Supporting H.R. 2, legislation intended to take concrete steps towards securing the border and combating illegal immigration.
- Helping introduce The Stop Fentanyl Money Laundering Act aimed at identifying improvements law enforcement may need to combat fentanyl trafficking.
- Demanding that human rights abuses not be used as a bargaining chip in negotiations with Beijing officials regarding fentanyl.
