U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) issued a statement following an assassination attempt on former President Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
“Peaceful political discourse is the cornerstone of our democracy and what has made this great experiment a beacon of hope for the world for 248 years,” Kim stated.
She emphasized that Americans should not fear violent retribution for exercising their voices through voting, attending rallies, or speaking up in communities. "Our differences are settled through the political process. Violence is unacceptable. Our country cannot continue along this path. We must unite, deescalate, heal our wounds, and move forward as a country."
Kim expressed relief that former President Trump is recovering well and extended her prayers to him, his family, and all those affected by the incident. She called for unity in response to the tragedy: “I hope that in the face of this tragedy, we rise up, lead by example, and remember that more unites us than divides us as Americans.”
