Young Kim, a U.S. Congress member representing California’s 40th district, has shared her insights and activities through a series of recent posts on social media. Elected to the U.S. Congress in 2021, Kim previously served in the California State Assembly from 2014 to 2016. She was born in Incheon, South Korea, in 1962 and holds a BBA from the University of Southern California.

On May 15, 2025, Young Kim emphasized the importance of reducing dependence on China for consumer goods and national security tools. “We can’t be dependent on China for consumer goods & national security tools,” she stated. During a hearing at the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s GOP section, she questioned what vulnerabilities exist and how to safeguard economic and national security interests.

Later that day, Kim expressed appreciation for local community leaders by meeting with Inland Empire Utilities Agency Secretary & Treasurer Steven Elie in Washington D.C. “Great to see Inland Empire Utilities Agency Secretary & Treasurer Steven Elie in my DC office this week!” she posted.

In another post dated May 15, 2025, Young Kim highlighted achievements under former President Trump regarding border control measures. She noted that “Border security is national security.” According to her statement, apprehensions at the Southern border have decreased by 93 percent during Trump’s administration.
