Young Kim, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 40th district, recently shared updates on her legislative efforts via social media. The posts highlight her commitment to addressing military sexual trauma (MST), online child exploitation, and broader national issues.

On May 19, 2025, Young Kim announced that the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has increased its approval rate for military sexual trauma claims to over 63%, compared to roughly 40% more than a decade ago. She expressed her satisfaction with the progress made and stated, “We must ensure MST survivors receive the certainty, compassion, & care they deserve.” She also noted her bipartisan bill aimed at supporting MST survivors had successfully passed out of the House.

Later that day, Kim celebrated another legislative achievement with the passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act. She wrote on social media, “Good news! The TAKE IT DOWN Act is now the law of the land to protect kids from online exploitation.” Kim emphasized her pride in voting for this historic bipartisan bill on the House floor.

On May 20, 2025, Kim reiterated her dedication to serving her constituents and working towards national improvement. She stated on social media that she was back at work in Washington and committed to fighting for positive change: “I’m fighting tooth and nail to get this country back on the right track and deliver real relief for my constituents.”

Young Kim has been serving in Congress since replacing Gil Cisneros in 2021. Born in Incheon, South Korea in 1962 and currently residing in La Habra, she holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.
