Deputies in Mission Viejo responded to a call on Friday, April 25, 2025, when reports of a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds emerged from an apartment complex on La Glorieta. The police arrived to find Miguel Joaquin Mata, 39, in need of urgent help. Paramedics from the Orange County Fire Authority transported him to a hospital, but he was pronounced dead.

The alleged shooter was identified as Sean Jeffery Williams, 55, also a Mission Viejo resident and neighbor to the victim. The motive behind the incident has not been disclosed.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Homicide team promptly began their investigation and, based on gathered interviews and evidence, Sean Jeffery Williams was arrested on suspicion of homicide and is currently held at Orange County Jail.
