The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is encouraging families and students to participate in National Walk and Roll to School Day on October 8. The event aims to promote exercise and highlight the need for safe routes for walking and biking to school.

Sergeant Ishii of the Orange County Sheriff Traffic Bureau stated, “National Walk and Roll to School Day is a great opportunity to highlight pedestrian safety and advocate for safer routes for walking and biking to school. This day underscores the importance of boosting physical activity and prioritizes the safety of the families in our community.”

Officials are reminding drivers to be extra cautious on October 8 due to an expected increase in foot and bike traffic. Drivers are advised to watch for school buses, children crossing streets, and reduce speed in school zones. The department also stresses that this level of caution should be maintained every day, not just during special events.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has provided tips for students who walk, bike, or roll to school. Additionally, schools are encouraged to register their participation at walkbiketoschool.org as a way of tracking involvement and supporting active transportation.
