Mission Viejo, Calif. (July 24, 2025): The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will deploy additional officers on patrol in the City of Mission Viejo on Saturday, July 26. These officers will focus specifically on traffic violations committed by drivers and motorcycle riders.

Motorcycle crashes are often caused by factors such as unsafe speed, improper turning, right-of-way violations, driving under the influence, and unsafe lane changes. Speeding is the most common factor, responsible for nearly a third of all crashes in California.

To enhance safety on the roads, several tips have been provided for both drivers and motorcycle riders. Drivers are advised to always check mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles, use signals when changing lanes, maintain a safe distance from motorcycles, and allow sufficient space at intersections before turning.

Motorcycle riders should wear DOT-compliant helmets and protective gear. They are encouraged to add reflective tape for better visibility and keep their lights on during the day. Riders should signal well in advance before changing lanes and be cautious of turning vehicles. While lane splitting is legal, it is not recommended at high speeds in free-flowing traffic.
