The Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be increasing patrols in Stanton on Saturday, June 7. Officers will focus on identifying violations committed by both drivers and motorcycle riders.

Key crash factors for motorcycles include unsafe speed, improper turning, right-of-way violations, driving under the influence, and unsafe lane changes. Speeding is a significant issue, contributing to nearly one-third of all crashes statewide.

To enhance safety for all road users, several guidelines are advised:

For drivers:

- Regularly check mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles.

- Use signals when changing lanes.

- Maintain a safe distance from motorcycles.

- Allow sufficient space at intersections before making turns.

For motorcycle riders:

- Wear a DOT-compliant helmet and protective gear.

- Consider using reflective tape to increase visibility.

- Keep lights on during the day.

- Signal early before lane changes and be cautious of turning vehicles.

While lane splitting is legal, it is not recommended at high speeds in free-flowing traffic.
