Orange County Sheriff's Department will increase patrols in Yorba Linda on May 19, targeting violations by drivers and motorcyclists. The focus will be on unsafe speed, improper turning, right-of-way violations, driving under the influence, and unsafe lane changes. Speeding remains a primary cause of motorcycle crashes, responsible for nearly one-third of such incidents statewide.

To ensure safety, drivers are advised to check mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles, signal lane changes, maintain safe distances from motorcycles, and allow ample space at intersections before turning.

Motorcyclists are urged to wear DOT-compliant helmets and protective gear. Adding reflective tape can improve visibility to other drivers. Motorcyclists should keep lights on during the day and signal well ahead of lane changes while being cautious of turning vehicles. Though lane splitting is legal, it is not recommended at high speeds in free-flowing traffic.
