U.S. Representatives Young Kim and Lauren Boebert have introduced H.R. 3095, a bill that aims to direct the United States Postal Service to assign unique ZIP codes to certain communities currently lacking them. This includes North Tustin, an unincorporated area in California's 40th District.
Congresswoman Kim emphasized the importance of this initiative for North Tustin residents, stating, "North Tustin has long been a pillar of Orange County, but its status as an unincorporated area causes confusion for taxes and USPS. A unique zip code would provide certainty for residents who have called North Tustin home for decades." She also expressed gratitude towards Representative Boebert for collaborating on this bill.
Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner highlighted the financial implications faced by North Tustin residents due to their current ZIP code situation: "For far too long, our constituents in North Tustin have been subjected to excess local taxes solely because of their zip code. They never voted for the taxes, raising a constitutional concern of taxation without representation."
Richard Nelson, President of the Foothill Communities Association, voiced appreciation for Congresswoman Kim's efforts: "The residents of North Tustin, CA are very grateful to Congresswoman Young Kim for co-sponsoring a bill that will create a unique ZIP code for North Tustin." He noted that until 1996, North Tustin had its own ZIP code before changes led to confusion and issues.
