Congressman Darrell Issa has voiced his dissatisfaction following LA28's decision to not retain Galway Downs as a venue for the 2028 Summer Olympics. The Congressman issued a statement expressing his views on the decision affecting the facility located in Temecula.
“I’m deeply disappointed to learn that Galway Downs in Temecula is reportedly no longer LA28’s proposed host site for equestrian events at the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games. This abrupt move appears arbitrary, unwarranted, and our community deserves a clear explanation of the process that led to this change. At this time, a satisfactory reason has yet to be offered."
Rep. Issa emphasized the investment and preparation committed over the years by the state-of-the-art facility at Galway Downs, alongside the city of Temecula and the wider Riverside County community, to host the equestrian events. "Significant investments in time, material, and preparation have already been dedicated to serving as the host site, and Galway Downs is the only equestrian venue in the greater Los Angeles region with the existing infrastructure to accommodate all Equestrian Events, including a full-length cross-country course."
Issa hopes for discussions that provide clarity and fairness to Galway Downs, aiming to foster unity in Southern California with the pending global audience of the 2028 Olympics. “I look forward to productive and informative conversations and a more comprehensive transparent process that provides fundamental fairness to Galway Downs and unifies our Southern California community as we welcome the world to our home in 2028."
In a collaborative effort, Rep. Issa, joined by Congressman Ken Calvert and various leaders from Riverside County, is urging the Los Angeles City Council, the Los Angeles Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic Games, and the International Olympic Committee to reconsider Galway Downs as the venue for the equestrian events.
