A deputy-involved shooting took place today in a gated residential community in Dana Point, California. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Friday, March 28, at approximately 4:12 a.m. when deputies responded to a call for a welfare check near Corniche Drive and Camino Del Avion. The caller reported hearing a woman screaming at the given address.
Upon arrival, deputies attempted to make contact with the resident. At some point after their arrival, a 38-year-old woman emerged from the front door holding a knife. The confrontation resulted in a deputy-involved shooting, with the woman being struck multiple times.
The woman was given medical assistance at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital, where she is currently in critical condition. Officials confirmed that there were no other individuals involved either in the initial call or during the shooting. No deputies sustained injuries during the incident. Authorities have also provided a photo of the knife found near the woman.
