Congressman Darrell Issa, representing California's 48th district and serving as Vice Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, has called for an investigation into ActBlue and ActBlue Charities. These entities are known for their role in progressive campaign fundraising. Issa's request to the Trump Administration focuses on whether these organizations have knowingly facilitated payments from groups linked to terrorism.

In a letter addressed to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Issa emphasized the gravity of terror financing. He stated: “Terror financing is an extremely serious crime, and organizations cannot be given a free pass for failed due diligence, or worse, the enabling of terrorism. I hope that the new leadership of the Treasury Department will carefully review this fundraising collaboration as well as what any funds raised ultimately supported to determine whether ActBlue or ActBlue Charities have violated relevant criminal statutes.”

Public reports have indicated that ActBlue Charities provided services to groups such as the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, Alliance for Global Justice, and US Campaign for Palestinian Rights.

Issa's concerns date back to September 2023 when he urged an investigation by the Biden Treasury Department following revelations by investigative journalist Gabe Kaminsky. In his 2023 letter, Issa highlighted: “ActBlue’s charity platform has facilitated payments since at least 2021 for the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, a founding member of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions National Committee that is affiliated with entities designated by the United States as terrorist groups.”

Despite these findings and suspicions regarding potential legal violations, Issa noted that there was no substantial response from the Biden-Harris Treasury Department. Currently, House Republicans are conducting multiple investigations through various Congressional committees concerning ActBlue’s activities.

Rep. Issa’s full letter to Secretary Bessent is available online.
