This week, Representatives Young Kim of California and Bonnie Watson Coleman of New Jersey introduced a bipartisan resolution in the U.S. House of Representatives to mark March 12, 2025, as Girl Scouts Day. This initiative commemorates the 113th anniversary of the founding of Girl Scouts of the USA.

The resolution acknowledges several key contributions and milestones associated with the organization. It celebrates 113 years of inspiring leadership development among girls, congratulates those who earned the Gold Award in 2024, encourages skills development for future leaders, and honors Juliette Gordon Low, founder of Girl Scouts, who will be featured on this year's American Women Quarters.

Representative Kim expressed her commitment to supporting opportunities for women and girls: “For 113 years, Girl Scouts of the USA has provided young girls with a safe and inclusive environment to explore their world... I have seen firsthand how Girl Scouts empowers girls to dream big.”

Representative Watson Coleman also highlighted the broader impact of Girl Scouts beyond its well-known cookie sales: “For 113 years, Girl Scouts... has offered young women and girls an opportunity to make new friends... The Girl Scouts are about so much more than the cookies.”

Bonnie Barczykowski, CEO of Girl Scouts of the USA, praised the resolution: “This Girl Scout Week... recognizing the trailblazing legacy of Juliette Gordon Low. Juliette founded a movement that encourages girls to champion their ambitions.”

In addition to Reps. Kim and Watson Coleman, other co-sponsors include Reps. Betty McCollum from Minnesota, Nicole Malliotakis from New York, Nikema Williams from Georgia, Mary Gay Scanlon from Pennsylvania, Andrew Garbarino from New York, and Buddy Carter from Georgia.
