Congressman Darrell Issa, Vice Chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has addressed a letter to President Donald Trump expressing concerns about potential actions by Azerbaijan against Armenia. In his communication, Rep. Issa noted, "I am deeply concerned by these statements at a time when your administration has clearly made it the policy of the United States to seek peace in the world." He urged for measures to deter Azerbaijan from further actions against Armenia, suggesting that the U.S. could employ various tools, including sanctions.

Rep. Issa is a member of the Congressional Armenian Caucus and has previously questioned the Biden Administration regarding its policies in the region. He asked what steps were being taken to ensure that Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh can return home safely without facing oppression or human rights violations by Azerbaijan's government.

In his letter to President Trump, Rep. Issa criticized the Biden-Harris Administration's approach, stating: "Unfortunately, the State Department under the Biden-Harris Administration was effectively pushing Armenia to make further concessions." He emphasized that Armenia should not be expected to concede more given their significant suffering and displacement due to Azerbaijani actions.

The full text of Rep. Issa's letter is available for public viewing.

Darrell Issa represents California’s 48th Congressional District, which includes parts of San Diego County and Riverside County. He previously chaired the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform from 2011-2015.
