The House Financial Services Committee has approved the Taiwan Non-Discrimination Act of 2025 (H.R.910), a bipartisan initiative led by Congresswoman Young Kim and Congressman Al Green. The bill seeks to secure Taiwan's participation in the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Congresswoman Kim emphasized Taiwan's significant role in the global economy, noting its exclusion from the IMF due to pressure from the Chinese Communist Party. "We cannot allow the CCP to dictate international financial policy and sideline a key democratic partner," she stated, expressing gratitude to the committee for advancing the bill.

Congressman Green highlighted his collaboration with Rep. Kim on this legislation, stating, "Taiwan deserves to rejoin the IMF, not only because of its status as a vibrant democracy but also for its dynamic economy that contributes significantly to global growth."

The proposed act aims for several objectives: advocating for Taiwan's membership in the IMF, ensuring its participation in economic surveillance activities, creating employment opportunities at the IMF for Taiwanese nationals, and enabling Taiwan to receive technical assistance and training from the organization.

This legislative effort follows Congresswoman Kim's previous success in restoring Taiwan’s observer status in both the World Health Organization and World Health Assembly through another bipartisan bill passed into law in May 2022.
