On February 9, 2025, a 72-year-old inmate housed in the Correctional Medical Services wing of a local hospital passed away. The inmate had been in custody since March 9, 2019, after being booked by the Westminster Police Department for charges including attempted murder and various counts of arson.

The inmate was transferred to the hospital on September 9, 2022, for further medical treatment and remained there until his death. He was pronounced dead at approximately 9:17 a.m. on February 9. According to initial reports, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. An independent autopsy and toxicology report will determine the final cause of death.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is set to investigate this in-custody death. Concurrently, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will conduct its own review. No further information has been released pending these investigations.
