House Speaker Mike Johnson has appointed U.S. Representative Young Kim to the House Select Committee on Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party for the 119th Congress. This committee, with a bipartisan approach, is tasked with evaluating threats from the CCP to the U.S. economy and national security, as well as proposing strategies for a robust American future.

Rep. Kim also holds positions as chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific and is a member of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on National Security, International Financial Institutions, and Illicit Finance.

Congresswoman Kim stated, “Xi Jinping has made clear his goal for the Chinese Communist Party to be the world’s top economic, military, and technological superpower. Our freedoms and values we hold dear – and life as we know it – are at stake.” She expressed her commitment to countering CCP aggression and protecting American values through her work on this committee.

Chairman Moolenaar highlighted Rep. Kim's role by saying, “Rep. Young Kim represents a critical addition to our efforts as we confront the growing threat of the Chinese Communist Party." He emphasized that her experience will be crucial in addressing national security challenges posed by China.

Speaker Johnson remarked on Rep. Kim's appointment: “To secure a strong American future and counter the growing influence of the Chinese Communist Party, Congress has a duty to continue... As a leader on the Foreign Affairs Committee and an expert on Indo-Pacific issues, Congresswoman Young Kim will be an invaluable addition.”
