Fatal traffic collision leads to arrest in Dana Point

On Friday, January 31, 2025, a traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Golden Lantern and Stonehill Drive in Dana Point. The incident involved a Land Rover SUV and a Ford Transit van in a head-on collision.

According to the preliminary investigation by Orange County Sheriff's Deputies, the Land Rover was traveling westbound on Stonehill Drive. It turned left against a red arrow signal in front of the Ford Transit van, which was traveling eastbound on the same road.

The driver of the Transit van was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, Melvin Joseph Weibel, an 88-year-old passenger from Dana Point, died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

Serene Francie Rosenberg, aged 48 and also from Dana Point, was identified as the driver of the Land Rover. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence with three prior convictions. Rosenberg has been booked into Orange County Jail facing charges for CPC 187(a) – Murder and CVC 23153(a) – DUI Causing Injury.
