On January 1, 2025, a serious traffic collision occurred in Mission Viejo, California. At approximately 1:43 a.m., deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Department responded to an incident near Marguerite Parkway and Pueblonuevo Drive.
The crash involved a Chevrolet Malibu and a Toyota Camry. Preliminary investigations suggest that the Chevrolet Malibu was traveling in the wrong direction on southbound lanes of Marguerite Parkway when it collided head-on with the Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Toyota Camry, an adult female, was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead. The Chevrolet Malibu's driver and passenger were also hospitalized due to injuries from the collision.
Geraldine Caicedo-Perez, aged 26, who was driving the Chevrolet Malibu, has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. She faces charges for gross vehicular manslaughter under CPC 191.5(a) and is currently held at Orange County Jail.
Authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased woman, who was in her 60s, pending notification of her next of kin by the Coroner Division.
