An inmate at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange, California, died on December 29, 2024. The inmate, identified as 45-year-old Anthony Creston Brown from Cerritos, had been booked into jail two days earlier by the La Palma Police Department. He faced charges under CPC 484 for theft and an additional charge of CPC 4573.8 for possessing drugs or paraphernalia in prison or jail.

Brown was discovered unresponsive in his cell during the afternoon of December 29. Deputies and correctional medical staff attempted life-saving measures but were unsuccessful. Brown was pronounced dead at approximately 4:31 p.m. There are currently no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. An independent autopsy and toxicology report will determine the final cause of death.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is set to investigate this in-custody death, while the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will conduct a separate review. No further information has been released.
