Young Kim receives civility award for bipartisan efforts in Congress

U.S. Representative Young Kim, serving California's 40th district, has been honored with the 2024 Newsweek-Stubblefield Institute Civility Award for her efforts in promoting bipartisanship and civil discourse. The award was announced yesterday in Washington, DC.

The selection of awardees was made by a bipartisan panel comprising representatives from Newsweek, the Stubblefield Institute for Civil Political Communications, and the Bipartisan Policy Center. The Civility Awards are presented to one Republican and one Democrat from both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate.

Representative Kim expressed her gratitude upon receiving the award, stating, "I came to Congress to bring common sense, break through the partisan gridlock, and get things done. My record shows my commitment to finding common ground." She further added her willingness to collaborate with others in Congress to deliver results for Southern California.

Ashley Horst, Executive Director of the Stubblefield Institute, praised Rep. Kim's work across party lines: “While relatively new to Congress, Rep. Kim has quickly shown her dedication to working across party lines and finding common ground which has led to Rep. Kim being a highly effective member of Congress. We are pleased to celebrate her work and encourage others to follow her example with a 2024 Newsweek-Stubblefield Institute Civility Award.”

Since joining Congress, Rep. Kim has achieved several milestones including returning over $25 million back to taxpayers from federal agencies, passing more than 40 bills out of the House with 17 bipartisan bills signed into law, assisting over 5,600 constituents with casework issues, attending numerous public events, and recognizing over 80 Vietnam era veterans and their spouses for their service.
