This week, U.S. Representatives Young Kim (CA-40), Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06), and Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01) introduced the bipartisan Global Alzheimer’s Initiative Now (GAIN) Act (H.R. 10175). The legislation aims to position the United States as a leader in addressing Alzheimer's disease and dementia through global cooperation by authorizing U.S. participation in the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative (DAC). This partnership is focused on transforming research, prevention, and care worldwide.

Alzheimer's disease and dementia currently affect nearly 60 million people globally, with projections indicating that cases could exceed 150 million by 2050. These diseases are already costing the global economy $1.3 trillion annually, with expenses expected to double every decade.

The GAIN Act emphasizes the importance of U.S. leadership in multilateral health efforts. DAC has provided grants for 19 healthcare systems across 12 countries and aims to raise and deploy $700 million to advance solutions against Alzheimer's globally.

"Alzheimer’s disease is the third leading cause of death in older adults in Orange County and seventh leading cause of death worldwide," said Rep. Kim. "With more resources dedicated to tackling this global challenge, we can save lives."

Rep. Bera added that "Alzheimer’s disease is a global challenge that demands a global response." He stated that "the GAIN Act ensures that the United States leads the charge in building partnerships that accelerate research, improve care, and support families everywhere."

Rep. Fitzpatrick noted the urgency of action: "The alarming rate at which Alzheimer’s disease is inflicting our world’s population requires swift and decisive action." He expressed pride in co-leading this bill as part of his role on the Congressional Task Force on Alzheimer’s Disease.

The GAIN Act advances U.S. leadership by driving international collaboration to develop innovative diagnostics, treatments, and care models; promoting equitable solutions for low- and middle-income countries; aligning U.S. investments with multilateral initiatives; strengthening global partnerships; and accelerating advancements in prevention strategies through international research efforts.
