U.S. Representatives Young Kim, Josh Gottheimer, Joe Wilson, and Lois Frankel have introduced a bipartisan resolution condemning the attack by Hamas on Israel that occurred on October 7, 2023. This move comes as the one-year anniversary of the incident is observed. The attack resulted in over 1,200 deaths and the abduction of 251 hostages from various countries, including seven Americans who remain in captivity.
Rep. Young Kim emphasized the gravity of the attack: “Hamas’s brutal terrorist attack against our ally Israel on October 7, 2023 put the worst of evil on display for the world to watch.” She also expressed her commitment to supporting allies against terrorism.
Congressman Josh Gottheimer stated, “As we commemorate one year since October 7, we honor the memory of the innocent civilians who were brutally murdered by Hamas terrorists and we stand with our greatest ally in the Middle East.”
Congressman Joe Wilson noted that "the U.S. remains steadfast in its support of the Israeli people" while Congresswoman Lois Frankel highlighted it as "one year since Hamas terrorists unleashed the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust."
The resolution has received backing from several organizations such as ADL (Anti-Defamation League), American Jewish Committee (AJC), FDD Action, Hadassah, Jewish Federations of North America, Jewish Women International, and National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW).
Jonathan Greenblatt from ADL remarked on how these attacks have led to increased antisemitic sentiments globally: “These horrific terrorist attacks led by Hamas...have ultimately led to targeting of Jewish communities around the globe.”
Ted Deutch from AJC commented on ongoing threats: “Hamas continues to launch rockets into Israel...and is still holding 101 hostages.”
Carol Ann Schwartz from Hadassah called for remembrance and action: “Hadassah supports Reps...efforts through this resolution to commemorate one year since Hamas’ brutal October 7th attack against Israel.”
Eric Fingerhut from Jewish Federation emphasized solidarity with Israel through various events commemorating victims and heroes.
Meredith Jacobs from JWI stressed acknowledging truths about sexual violence used during these events as critical for historic justice.
