SANTEE – Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) hosted the House Judiciary Committee for a field hearing in Santee, CA, examining the impact of the Biden-Harris Administration’s border policies on California communities.
The hearing, titled "The Biden-Harris Border Crisis: California Perspectives," featured local Southern California leaders who discussed issues such as drug trafficking, public safety threats, and the strain on local resources. These concerns were attributed to what they described as open border policies allowing millions of illegal immigrants to enter the country.
“From day one, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris opened our borders, invited millions of illegal immigrants to walk through them, and ensured they would not have to leave — even if they committed serious crimes. This has led to an unprecedented surge of illegal immigrant crime, drugs, and trafficking — and our community knows that enough is enough. I want to thank the committee for coming to San Diego to witness the severity of this crisis firsthand,” said Rep. Issa.
The hearing also focused on Issa’s new bill, the Sanctuary City Accountability Act, which aims to hold sanctuary cities accountable for crimes committed by illegal immigrants they harbored and released into communities.
Issa was joined by Rep. Andy Biggs (AZ-05) and Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) at the hearing.
Witnesses included:
- Michael Hestrin, District Attorney of Riverside County
- John Franklin, Mayor of Vista
- Cory Gautereaux, Border Security Advocate and Small Business Owner
- Don Sharp, Undersheriff of Riverside County
- John Minto, Mayor of Santee
