Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Young Kim (CA-40) has voted in favor of the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, emphasizing the importance of protecting national security and improving public safety and maternity care in the California 40th district.
In her statement regarding the vote, Rep. Young Kim expressed her dedication to serving her district, stating, “Delivering results for my district is my top priority.” She highlighted the bill's focus on reducing wasteful spending while strengthening national security, securing the border, supporting allies, and protecting essential programs that address issues such as stillbirth prevention, maternity care enhancement, and emergency safety operations in CA-40. Kim affirmed her commitment to advocating for policies that uphold the American dream and maintain the nation's global standing as a beacon of freedom and democracy.
The appropriations package includes significant allocations towards key national security priorities, such as a $125 million increase in Border Patrol overtime pay, a 5.2% rise in basic military pay – the largest increase in over two decades, and substantial funding to bolster defense efforts against threats like the Chinese Communist Party, countering narcotics, and supporting military personnel and their families. Additionally, the bill doubles security cooperation funding for Taiwan and provides $3.3 billion in security assistance to Israel as outlined in the 2016 Memorandum of Understanding.
Rep. Young Kim's advocacy also secured specific provisions within the bill, including $1.5 million designated for the City of Anaheim for an Emergency Operations Center, reflecting her dedication to enhancing emergency safety measures in the region. As the co-chair of the Maternity Care Caucus, Kim championed initiatives to strengthen maternity care, securing funding for various programs aimed at improving maternal health and well-being.
Furthermore, Rep. Kim's efforts led to the inclusion of $6.46 million for international broadcasting operations in North Korea and provisions related to vaccine development for HIV, malaria, and emerging infectious diseases, underscoring her commitment to addressing global health challenges.
