Inmate from Theo Lacy Facility Dies in Custody

ORANGE, Ca. (March 9, 2024) – An inmate housed at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange passed away while in jail, as reported on March 8, 2024. The individual, who was brought in on March 7, 2024, for a parole violation by the Anaheim Police Department, has not been identified pending notification of next of kin by the Orange County Coroner’s Division.

The inmate was discovered unresponsive in his cell on the evening of March 8, 2024. Efforts to revive him were made by deputies and correctional medical staff, but unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased at the Theo Lacy Facility around 6:40 p.m. The authorities have stated that, "Preliminarily, there are no suspicious circumstances."

Following the incident, it was announced that the Orange County District Attorney’s Office will be responsible for investigating the in-custody death, while the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will conduct an in-custody death review. As of now, no further details have been disclosed, with officials mentioning, "No additional information will be released at this time."
