Washington - Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-48) has submitted an amendment to H.R.7511, the Laken Riley Act, that would allow crime victims or their families to sue immigration sanctuary communities. If the Issa proposal becomes law, a sanctuary jurisdiction (i.e., sanctuary city, county, or state) could be held liable in court if an illegal immigrant from the sanctuary jurisdiction later commits a crime against another individual.

"Laken Riley was failed by so many levels of our government — from Joe Biden’s open borders and reckless catch-and-release policies to New York City’s lawless embrace of sanctuary city status. The legislation that carries her name will make a real difference, and I believe that my proposal will make it even stronger. My proposal will allow victims to hold California, and every sanctuary jurisdiction, accountable for their purposeful lawlessness,” said Rep. Issa.

A sanctuary jurisdiction is a city, county, state, or similar that in its policies and practices willfully refuses or prohibits compliance with federal immigration law. Text of Issa’s amendment can be found [here](insert link to text of amendment).
