California State Representative Kate Sanchez posted her thoughts about California bill AB 2031, warning about the “bad bill” and the “unacceptable” behavior of the Democrat legislators in the state.
“CA Dems are pushing a bill for illegal immigrants convicted of violent felonies to receive taxpayer-funded legal aid & avoid deportation!” Sanchez wrote on X. “AB 2031 is completely UNACCEPTABLE. Why do they want to prioritize immigrant rapists & murderers over everyone else??”
The bill, AB 2031, is called the "One California program," and will be heard in Assembly Judiciary on Tuesday, March 12.
Current California law prohibits the awarding of grant funds for the use of "legal services to an individual who has been convicted of, or who is currently appealing a conviction for, a violent or serious felony." AB 2031 would remove that prohibition entirely.
The bill would also expand services provided by non-profits and funded by grant awards to offer more immigration and litigation services to "provide persons with certain immigration-related legal services" and aid "persons having an intent to reside in and having a nexus to the state."
Kate Sanchez represents District 71 in the California State Assembly. She was first elected in 2022 and is on the November 2024 ballot for reelection in her district. Sanchez has a Bachelor's from Salve Regina University and previously worked with the California Policy Center and served as the executive director of the California Women’s Leadership Association, among other positions.
