Sacred Heart Pioneers, featuring former San Clemente High School standout Sam Kowalski, were edged 3-2 by the Sacramento State Hornets in their NCAA Division I softball game on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2:30 p.m.
The game was played at Shea Stadium and marked the teams’ first meeting of the season.
Kowalski gave up three earned runs across six innings, tallying six strikeouts and issuing four walks.
The Pioneers are set to face the UC Davis Aggies next on Sunday, March 1, at 2:30 p.m. at La Rue Field.
