The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has scheduled an enforcement operation to tackle distracted driving in Stanton. This proactive measure will take place on April 21, operating from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. The primary aim is to focus on drivers who are potentially breaking the hands-free cell phone law.

Under existing regulations, drivers are prohibited from holding a phone or any electronic communication device while driving. This restriction applies to activities such as talking, texting, or using apps. Notably, using a handheld cell phone while driving incurs a financial penalty. Furthermore, a second violation of the hands-free law within a period of 36 months, from a prior similar offense, results in the addition of a point to the driver’s record.

“A driver’s focus should be on the road, not their phone,” remarked Sgt. Kyle Ishii. “That text, phone call, email or social media post is not worth the risk to yourself and other people on the road.”

The Sheriff’s Department’s campaign highlights the importance of driver attention and adherence to traffic laws to ensure road safety in Stanton.
