Orange County Sheriff’s Office investigates fatal hit-and-run in Dana Point

On November 7, 2025, at around noon, Orange County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Dana Point Harbor Drive in Dana Point.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Barry William Tutt, a 71-year-old resident of La Verne, with severe injuries. Tutt was transported to a local hospital but later died from his injuries.

According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of a silver Ford sedan struck Tutt and left the scene. Witnesses assisted deputies in locating the driver. The suspect, identified as Humberto Munoz Gatica, 57, of Laguna Niguel, was arrested and booked at Orange County Jail on charges related to hit-and-run and suspicion of driving under the influence.
