The Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced on May 16 that extra officers will be on patrol in the City of Stanton on Saturday, May 18, specifically looking for violations by drivers and motorcycle riders.
This enforcement effort comes as unsafe speed, improper turning, right-of-way violations, driving under the influence, and unsafe lane changes remain leading factors in motorcycle crashes. Speeding is noted as the most common factor, accounting for nearly a third of all crashes statewide.
To promote safety, the department advises drivers to check twice for motorcycles in mirrors and blind spots, use signals when changing lanes, avoid following motorcycles too closely, and allow enough space at intersections before turning. Motorcycle riders are urged to always wear a DOT-compliant helmet and protective gear, consider adding reflective tape to improve visibility, keep lights on even during daylight hours, signal well in advance before changing lanes or turning, and remain cautious about lane splitting at high speeds.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department advances community safety through resources like missing persons alerts and emergency preparedness programs; it includes nearly 4,000 sworn and professional staff across various commands and divisions; it focuses on protecting the community through impartial law enforcement guided by integrity and respect; it embodies the spirit of early settlers who transformed the area from barren land into thriving communities; it extends its operations across Orange County covering various locations; and it implements state laws including AB 481 for military equipment oversight and SB 384 for sex offender registration—all according to the official website.
The department’s focus remains on increasing public awareness about safe driving practices to help reduce accidents involving motorcycles.
