Orange County Sheriff’s Department Special Victim’s Detail investigators arrested Michael Joseph Duran, 44, of Aliso Viejo on August 13, 2025. The arrest follows allegations that Duran engaged in a sexual relationship with a minor female between 2024 and 2025.

Authorities began their investigation after being contacted by a mandated reporter who suspected an inappropriate relationship was occurring between Duran and the minor victim. Investigators made contact with the victim and launched an inquiry into the claims. According to the victim, Duran groomed her and had a sexual relationship while he was working as an assistant basketball coach at Dana Hills High School.

During their investigation, detectives also learned that Duran has been involved as a coach with SOCAL FINS, a basketball club based in San Juan Capistrano.

Duran was booked into Orange County Jail on charges of oral copulation with a minor under the age of 18.
