Congressman Darrell Issa has announced the winner of the 2025 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 48th District. The honor goes to Connor Main, a student at Murrieta Valley High School, for his artwork titled “The Dire Wolf.” This piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for the coming year.
Issa remarked on the significance of Connor’s work: “Connor’s piece immediately struck me as uniquely creative and serves as a representation of CA-48’s brightest high school artists. I’m eager for it to be celebrated in our local community and presented in the U.S. Capitol, where it will be on display for the year ahead.”
Connor, a freshman, created his winning entry using only charcoal pencils. His parents have expressed their pride in seeing his work recognized by Congressman Issa and displayed at such a prestigious venue.
Jessica Hoxmeier, Connor’s art instructor, highlighted the dedication involved in completing “The Dire Wolf,” noting that he spent many hours perfecting each detail.
Hannah Maronde, another student from Murrieta Valley High School, was named runner-up with her painting “Progress of Patience.” Her artwork will be showcased in Congressman Issa’s Washington, D.C., office.
The competition saw numerous submissions from across the region, including various forms such as watercolors, photographs, drawings, and original paintings.
Organized annually by the Congressional Institute, this nationwide high school art competition aims to foster and acknowledge artistic talent across the United States. Winning entries are exhibited in the U.S. Capitol for one year, with winners invited to a reception in Washington, D.C.
