Investigators arrest homicide suspect following fatal shooting in Stanton

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department announced on April 8 that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Anthony Lee Carlos, 37, of Fullerton, which occurred in Stanton on April 5.

The case is significant for public safety as it involved not only a homicide but also the discovery of an illegal gambling operation during the investigation. Deputies responded to reports of a possible dead body near Main Street and Pacific Street early Sunday morning and found Carlos deceased from a gunshot wound.

During their investigation, law enforcement officials located an illegal gambling house near Cerritos Avenue and Flower Avenue. Approximately 50 people were detained at the scene, with six individuals arrested for outstanding warrants unrelated to the homicide. Multiple illegal gambling machines were seized as evidence.

Late on April 7, investigators arrested Jeffrey Lynn Clayton, 43, of Fullerton on suspicion of homicide. He was booked at Orange County Jail. Authorities said that Carlos and Clayton knew each other prior to the incident. The department stated that no additional information will be released while the investigation remains ongoing.
