On February 22, 2026, an inmate at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. The inmate, identified as 24-year-old Edson Israel Rosasmedrano, had been booked by the Santa Ana Police Department on February 19 for vehicle theft, receiving a stolen vehicle, and obstructing or resisting a peace officer.
According to officials, deputies and County Medical Services personnel attempted life-saving measures after discovering Rosasmedrano unresponsive.
