Inmate dies at Theo Lacy Facility; investigation underway

On February 22, 2026, an inmate at the Theo Lacy Facility in Orange was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead. The inmate, identified as 24-year-old Edson Israel Rosasmedrano, had been booked by the Santa Ana Police Department on February 19 for vehicle theft, receiving a stolen vehicle, and obstructing or resisting a peace officer.

According to officials, deputies and County Medical Services personnel attempted life-saving measures after discovering Rosasmedrano unresponsive. Members of the Orange County Fire Authority declared him deceased at the scene. Authorities stated that there are no suspicious circumstances at this time. An independent autopsy and toxicology report will determine the final cause of death.
