Captain Matt Timmins has been appointed as the new North Patrol Chief of Police Services, overseeing law enforcement for the city of Villa Park and northern unincorporated areas of Orange County. He will assume his new role on December 26.
“I look forward to working alongside the dedicated professionals who provide exceptional service to the county,” Captain Timmins said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute my experience and leadership to this hardworking team.”
Timmins began his career with the Sheriff’s Department in 2007, starting in custody operations before moving into patrol duties in Dana Point. During his time there, he served as both a field training officer and a school resource officer.
He was promoted to sergeant in 2019 and assigned to Men’s Central Jail. Later, he joined the Media Analysis Bureau, where he played a key role in developing and implementing the department’s body-worn camera program in 2021, which was rolled out to more than 1,000 personnel.
His experience also includes serving as a patrol sergeant in Yorba Linda, supervising internal affairs investigations within the SAFE Division, and acting as Public Information Officer responsible for media relations and communications.
Most recently, Timmins held the position of lieutenant with the Custody Operations Division, managing daily activities at the Intake Release Center.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Phoenix and a master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Public Safety Leadership from the University of San Diego. In addition to his law enforcement background, Timmins served four years in the United States Air Force, where he led teams tasked with protecting high-security assets.
Outside of work, Timmins enjoys spending time with family as well as camping, golfing, and snowboarding.
